The American Psychological Association (APA) accredited George Mason University Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program is seeking a youth and young adult focused Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow in our training clinic, Mason's Center for Community Mental Health. This is a 1-year full-time position, with potential for renewal. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence among its faculty and staff and encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason’s academic environment.
About the Program:
George Mason University is the largest public research university in Virginia. Mason's Clinical Psychology Program is committed to training graduate students to meet the evolving roles of clinical psychologists in providing evidence-based treatment across the life span. CCMH provides training for an array of behavioral health trainees and is committed to ensuring that our post-doctoral fellows benefit from our community facing orientation in their final training year(s).
Responsibilities:
Join our team to provide evidence-based therapy and testing services to the greater Washington DC community, with a focus on individualized, accessible services for youth, young adults and nontraditional college students.
Specifically, the Fellow will engage in therapy and comprehensive testing of adolescents and college students presenting with a variety of concerns. This will include consultation with our colleagues across George Mason University, as well as our psychiatric nurse practitioner. Our Fellow will also learn and offer brief intervention services through our unique stepped care program and provide evidence-based therapy to adolescents and young adults in our community-based clinic. Additional optional experiences include helping supervise doctoral students in our clinical science program or other community-based projects of interest.
Our Fellow will work at CCMH full time, dividing time between comprehensive testing and therapy for adolescents, young adults and nontraditional college students. Our Fellow will complete approximately two comprehensive assessments per month, for an estimated 25 assessments over the course of the training year. Referral issues include, but are not limited to ADHD, Autism, Learning Disabilities, anxiety, depression, and other comorbidities. Fellows will also assist in developing appropriate treatment recommendations as well as recommendations for academic accommodations. Fellows will also carry a caseload of approximately 4 clients for evidence-based therapy. This may include clients in the stepped care program, which offers brief intervention services and specifically targets underserved populations. You will have the opportunity to see a range of clients presenting with different issues, including clients who self-identify with a range of identities. Center therapy caseload will be adjusted if you choose to work in one of our community pediatric settings for ½ day/week.
Supervision will be provided by a minimum of two supervisors, one for testing and one for therapy.
Additional optional experiences include helping supervise doctoral students in our clinical science program, providing clinical services in pediatric primary care or the pediatric endocrine clinic, or other community-based projects of interest. Additional opportunities include participating in monthly interdisciplinary case conferences with our psychiatric nurse practitioner colleagues who collaborate with us to provide sliding scale psychopharmacological services to our Center clients, as well as other community outreach programs. This is a great opportunity to gain hours for licensure and hone both testing and therapy skills. Supervision will be provided by a minimum of two supervisors, one for testing and one for therapy.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program by the start date of the position; completion of an APA-accredited predoctoral internship; and prior experience with both therapy and testing of adolescents and young adults. All degree requirements, including dissertation defense, must be completed prior to beginning fellowship (end of August 2026). The stipend for the 2026-2027 Fellowship year is $61,500.
Note: Because this position involves working with minors, university policy requires a criminal background check prior to employment.
