Andrea Hickman Meleski
Andrea Hickman founded A.HICKMAN Design in 2002 to fulfill a vision of marrying her creative talents and love of interior design with her project management, marketing and problem solving abilities.
Andrea has had a lifelong love of art, architecture, construction, and interior design. As a young girl, she would spend hours drawing floor plans, space plans and room renderings. She enjoyed visiting model homes then recreating the floor plans with hair ribbons on her bedroom floor. She’d fill the spaces with dollhouse furniture and tiny hand-made accessories. Early on, her formal education was augmented with a multitude of art and design courses. She won her first interior design contest at age 8 and sold her first mixed media work of art at age 14. By 16, she was working as a computer aided design draftsman (CAD), then as a graphics designer, and as an assistant in a luxury residential design-build firm—all before she graduated from college.
A graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor of business administration in business analysis and software design, Andrea spent five years after college as a consultant analyzing Fortune 100 corporate problems with senior leadership then leading her team in the design of software solutions. Her love of art and design soon drew her back to the interior design world.
Andrea has completed interior design and remodeling projects all over the US, often finishing multiple homes for the same client. Andrea is conscientious of preserving her clients’ time and money while creating spaces they absolutely love to live in. You will not find advertisements for A.HICKMAN Design since the firm has grown organically from referrals, repeat clients and jobs well done.
Andrea enjoys the endeavors of entrepreneurship: the marketing/ business management required to grow companies almost as much as interior design! She routinely meets with other entrepreneurs to mentor and be mentored to. Andrea is a voracious reader and regularly attends continuing-education seminars, lectures, International Furnishing Market and other trade shows about the latest design and construction trends, business growth, innovations and products.
Andrea is active (past and present) on many boards, committees, and in the philanthropic endeavors of many organizations including: Washington Heritage Museums, George Mason University’s Center for Community Mental Health, The Community Foundation, Next Generation of Business Leaders (NGBL), Heritage Club, Preservation Virginia, International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA), Chamber of Commerce, Ducks Unlimited, YMCA, Interior Design Society (IDS) and her church. She also contributes to many other causes. She shares her lessons learned for marketing, public relations, business growth, interior design, and construction through seminars and webinars for numerous groups. Andrea also gives back to the design education community by hosting interior design interns from Virginia universities.
You can find Andrea working all over Virginia and the eastern seaboard, with her family, on a tennis court, or online at:
